Sally Blyth, NZTROF Vice-President & Auckland Delegate
With a lifelong love of thoroughbred racing, Sally has enjoyed the ups and downs of ownership since 2008. She brings a creative big-picture perspective alongside an action approach. She enjoys learning about the many aspects of this complex – and often misunderstood – industry and meeting people from all walks of life along the way.
Sally’s professional background is diverse and unconventional, having worked mainly for not-for-profit organisations in NZ and around the world, mostly in the health and wellbeing sector. With facilitation, coaching, conference and creative know-how under her belt, she enjoys working with people and enhancing experiences. Sally is self-employed, with a focus on the travel realm as a tour leader, travel companion and travel writer.
Having been on many community committees and various boards through the years, Sally enjoys enabling organisations to flourish. She took on the role of managing Grammar Junior Rugby Club (2005-2009) alongside her own work, initiating new systems and processes, growing club membership and enhancing the social/fundraising aspects. She has been Co-President of Epsom Girls Grammar School Old Girls Association since 2015.
A passionate creative, Sally is always looking beyond the known. Her motto is “Let’s make it happen”. She loves writing, skiing, quiz, cooking and spending time at the family beach house.
To date, Sally has had an interest in six racehorses. They all won a maiden race (one in Australia). However, one was injured in his follow-up race while out in front, and sadly never raced again. Four mares never lived up to their early potential. Sally currently enjoys the camaraderie of being part of a small syndicate who raced a one-win horse that retired in 2021 - but they have a new Redwood filly who will debut in 2022, keeping the dreams alive!
Sally has been a member of the Auckland Association since 2015. She contributes articles to the NZTROF Bulletin and is a member of Auckland Thoroughbred Racing Club, attending meetings at Ellerslie as often as possible.
