WINNING HORSES - June/July/August 2016
29 Aug 2016

MARE MIA - Timaru, 17th June 2016 – Laser Electrical 1200m Maiden (jockey Lisa Allpress)
Owned by: Triple Star Syndicate, The Thirsty Mob, Explosive Breeding, A D Stuart, Mrs F S McCarthy & K M Peck

Happy owners, proud horse, maiden ranks cleared. And hopefully more wins to come!

THE BIG OPAL – Riccarton, 6th August 2016 – NZI Koral Steeplechase 4250m – jockey Matthew Gillies
Owned by: A J & Mrs D I Dravitzki

The Big Opal capped off a great run of form, taking out the NZI Koral Steeplechase with a superb display of jumping, leading throughout. He gave a truly spectacular sight and made it look easy! Alas things did not go his way at his next outing in the Grand National Steeplechase. He was out in front and slipped, the jockey was lucky to stay on board but lost his irons and they fell at the last fence when in the leading bunch. The ups and downs of racing ...

WOODEN EDGE – Waipa, 26th June 2016 – Bowers & Son Ltd Concrete Manufacturers 1150m Maiden – jockey Victoria Gatu
Owned by: G Edge, Betalert Ltd, S Durrant, D Sexton, I Green, K Gregory, P Wicks, D Proverbs, M Hayes, D McHugh,
P O'Sullivan, R Clark & R Woods

There is no stopping this aptly named gelding (check the first and last owners’ names above!)  After two trial wins, he bolted in when he lined up for his first-up maiden race – and he has won both races since, over 1400m.  A horse to watch!

THE KNIGHT – Riccarton, 6th August 2016 – Premier Spring 1200m Open Hcp – jockey Krishna Mudhoo
Owned by: Mrs S L & Est late K L Wood and H B Tapper

The Knight capped off a hat trick of wins, bringing his overall tally to nine (same as his age!) This No Excuse Needed gelding has obviously given his owners plenty of enjoyment, with hopefully more to come.

SHEBANG – Avondale, 15th July 2016 – AJC on Facebook 1200m R75 – jockey Brendan Hutton
Owned by: Mrs M I & P M Guise

After getting back, Shebang snuck through on the rails and pushed forward for a narrow win as runners on the outside rail ran on strongly. A great ride by Brendan and the sort of run that keeps an owner’s heart in their mouth until the final stride.

ALL ROADS – Ruakaka, 23rd July 2016 – Harcourts High Tea at the Races 1400m R75 – jockey Kelly McCulloch
Owned by: B F & Mrs F Broom, T W Cole, A A Fraser, D J Gordon, J C MacLeod, R W McDuff, D S & M L Shuker

All Roads is in sensational form, with three convincing wins and a second from his last four starts. An owner can’t really ask for too much more than that. A racehorse with an exciting future we think!

PRINCESS RAAJ (x 2 photos) – Avondale, 15th July 2016 – Friends of Football 1600 Maiden – jockey Ryan Elliott

Owned by: G A Rogerson MNZM, The Whitby Bloodstock Trust, Todd Bawden, Peter & Lee Karton, Robin Ratcliffe & Graham Whiting

This 4YO mare by Iffraaj cleared maiden ranks with a run of two halves. Slow away, she was well back and no doubt had her owners rather anxious. Guided nicely by Ryan Elliott, she took the short cut turning for home, sticking close to the rails and saving ground on a heavy track. She held on for a very nice win.

CAMEAHOTFRIDAY – Tauranga, 30th July 2016 – United Gaming Ltd 3YO 1400m Maiden – jockey Zy Nor Azman
Owned by: K Capra, A J Connors, R F Hughes, D R & Mrs K M Smith, P A J Thomas & S Noikrut

It was actually a cold Wednesday when this horse won his maiden race in style, ridden nicely by his jockey. He won again next up at Matamata on 24th August by a very close margin. A follow-up win like that, straight out of maiden class, gives a good boost of confidence and no doubt these owners will be anticipating his next start with a measure of pride.

RAISAFUASHO – Te Aroha, 3rd July 2016 – Two Tones Catering Hurdle 0-1win H – jockey Emily Farr
Owned by: Mrs A Browne & Est late K S Browne MBE

Talk about bolt in – this horse won by 9 lengths, with a grand display of jumping. He obviously loves jumping on a Sunday at Te Aroha as he followed this up with another easy win here a few weeks later, on 24th July. Raisafuasho has seven wins to his credit, three of them over the hurdles showing that magical Ann Browne factor at work!

PACORUS – Te Rapa, 16th July 2016 – Foster Maintain 2100m R85 – jockey Viktoria Gatu
Owned by: David & Jennifer Morison, John Borich, Tony Craig, Ian Goodlet, Ken Green, Neville Jamieson, John Morgan,
Trevor Palmer & Tim Vince

Another horse with a recent hat trick to his name – this win was the second of three. It took a wee while to crack maiden class but he’s rising up through the grades stylishly. His happy owners will be hoping he can make it four in a row when he next steps out. We’ll be cheering!

SWEET TIME – Timaru, 17th June 2016 – Robbies Bar & Bistro Stayers 2100m Maiden – jockey Matthew Cameron
Owned by: K M & B J Voyce Family

Sweet Time, a 5YO mare, fought hard for her maiden victory and the happy smiles in this photo say it all. May there be many more sweet times in the winners’ circle ahead!

EEPA NEEMA – Wanganui, 16th June 2016 – Santoft Stables Maiden 3YO 1600m – jockey Lisa Allpress
Owned by: J P Baker, D C Benson, Mrs E K & S G Brown, O T Bruce, K N Buckman, A K Collins, Mrs K A & M D Courtney, S B Doull, M Fearon, Mrs A T & W A Flipp, Greenside Syndicate, M G Houlahan, J A Roache, J G & W Ross & G R Wilson

Eepa Neema capped off some solid placed efforts with a strong win under a very nice ride. The perfect way to make a Thursday extra special! We’re sure a good number of the large group of owners were on course to enjoy the thrill of this lovely win and celebrate in style.
